It's so lovely to meet you! My name is Cathryn Matheson. I'm a retired middle school teacher, with 10 years of piano and 8 years of voice instruction myself.
I earned my bachelor's degree in education with an emphasis on child & adolescent development in 2009. I taught at two different middle schools in Utah while my husband was in graduate school, then stepped back to stay home with our kids. We lived in Missouri for several years before moving to Colorado, which we are now so happy to call home.
While raising our four boys (age 4 to 14!), I have also worked as a substitute teacher for kindergarten through 12th grade; a Sunday school teacher, activity leader, and music leader in our church's children's ministry; a teacher, camp director, and activity leader in our teen ministry; a Cub Scouts leader and Boy Scouts merit badge counselor; and as the technology specialist for a national nonprofit supporting kids with cancer. My most recent musical adventure was joining a handbell choir last Christmas, something I haven't done for 20 years.
We have recently moved into a home with a larger piano space, and I am SO excited to refocus my energy on piano lessons again! I have a deep passion for working with kids and teens, with a special focus on teaching methods that build trust and engage all learning styles. I can't wait to share the fun of making music with you!
